This blog is written by David Stringer, a person of no particular importance or expertise. I wrote this blog under the title Building Order From Chaos between 2018 and 2020 mainly as a form of ranting and sorting through my thoughts on various political issues.
I have been a member of the Green Party of England and Wales since the summer of 2014, have held various volunteer roles formal and informal, and even stood for election as a council candidate.
The original name was intended to represent my intention to break down complicated issues and rebuild a sense of understanding and clarity where once there was confusion. After a while I decided I wasn’t happy that the meaning of the name was clear, and began to think that I might have accidentally taken inspiration from the Borg Queen.
The new name – Happy Sisyphus – is a play on the Albert Camus quote “We must imagine Sisyphus happy”. I have always felt a sense of futility and despair around my political activism. I’m trying to embrace the idea of Sisyphus being happy to remind myself that although global temperatures and fascism are both on the rise, my best option is probably to enjoy the process, and do what offers the best chance of limiting the carnage.
